a birthday celebration

On Monday morning we celebrated Evan's birthday. There was a lot of bouncy excitement over his sweet family and baby pictures. Following Evan's celebration some children asked about a piece of paper Erin had kindly shared with us. The paper was a letter sent home to Kindergarten families at the time of Evan's birth. When Evan was born his older brother (Colin) was in Kindergarten. Ms. Cindy was Colin's teacher and had celebrated Evan's birth in her weekly letter!

The Kindergarteners always enjoy hearing about when our beloved Cindy taught Kindergarten. We continue to revisit this, as some children's siblings and parents had Cindy as their teacher. It is such a beautiful history to be a part of. When we have opportunities to talk with older children in our school, they always smile and say, "I loved Kindergarten!"

This special letter from 6 years ago reminds me of the essential role of families and relationships in education. In Kindergarten, these relationships support children's learning and level of engagement, but most importantly, these relationships support how children feel at school.
