ski and ride action shots

1-19-18

All of the Kindergarteners worked so hard on the mountain. They fell down and got back up, they learned that falling down is part of getting stronger and there are ways to pull or push yourself back up. Every great skier or snowboarder knows how to fall down. It was incredibly powerful to watch as kids tried something new, experienced a challenge outside of the classroom, and felt successful in various ways. It was also wonderful to see parents and children enjoying the day together. I don't often hear a child describe a learning experience at school as AWESOME, but all children talked about how awesome Ski and Ride is!

At the end of the day, when the group of bus riders returned to school for about 15 minutes, we gathered together on the rug. There was a peacefulness and gentle joy about the children, we talked about what was challenging, what they liked about Ski and Ride, and their hope for the evening after being on the mountain all day. It was a special little moment, children curled up in their ski pants, talking about their day. They were tired, but happy. This is how we should always feel at the end of the day, a little tired, but happy. For me, the most important part of Ski and Ride is as simple as this - children are playing and learning outside.

All of the children will spend more time on Sir Henry's next week and I will be able to take additional action shots. Thank you to all of our Kindergarten chaperones and volunteers, without you, this experience wouldn't be able to happen.
