mathematicians at work

We discuss and count the number of children in our classroom on a daily basis, but how would you represent how many? There are many different ways to represent an amount! The morning message provided an opportunity for children to represent how many in their own way. We discussed the different ways to represent how many and questioned when peers chose to write a different number. Some children used drawing to show 20 friends and some children explored writing a number sentence!

Children find the number 20 in our classroom - solving a problem independently and using our environment as a support!

Children have also been recording how many during our math workshop. With a shape recording sheet, the Kindergarteners record how many of each shape used in their unique pattern block designs.

The great number order challenge;

Can you put the numbers 10 - 20 in order without talking? Can you put the numbers in order counting up and then counting down? Your audience will check your work!
